Thinking Globally, Acting Locally
8th Annual Ethnic, Gender, Transborder Studies & Sociology (EGTSS) Summit
Friday, May 10, 9am-4:30pm
Proscenium Theater, West Campus, Pima Community College

The 8th annual Ethnic, Gender, Transborder Studies & Sociology (EGTSS) Summit of Pima
Community College welcomes internationally and locally known leaders in education, culture,
and politics for a public conference on topics impacting Tucson’s diverse communities. The
spring 2024 summit’s theme is, “Climate Action, Sustainability, and Eco-Justice: Thinking
Globally, Acting Locally.” The keynote speaker, Ami Vitale, is an award-winning, internationally
recognized, National Geographic photographer, Nikon Ambassador, and documentary
filmmaker. Her work spans themes from war to wildlife conservation across the globe,
including the Middle East, Africa, and China. Vitale will share, “a series of powerful images and
stories about people on the front lines of war, climate change, and extinction who refuse to let
cataclysm define their future” (amivitale.com).

Ami Vitale’s forthcoming presentation, "Wild Hope," is a visually and emotionally compelling
story that will draw out global connections of the summit’s themes and set the stage for
panels and workshops that will inform the public about climate change, sustainability, and
social justice in our local communities and teach practical skills to address them.

Tabling by community groups and student exhibits will enhance the day's activities. Continental breakfast
and lunch will be provided to participants who register for the day. Stay tuned for registration
information and more!
