Desert Vista Gallery - Oppenheimer's Exhibit Reception
The Desert Vista Art Gallery exhibit “The Oppenheimers’: One is Dad, Dimensions of Engineering” by Arizona artist Ernesto A. Trujillo. This captivating showcase takes patrons on a journey through the intricate dimensions of engineering and the impact of military innovation.
For nearly 14 years, Trujillo’s father played a pivotal role in the defense industry, contributing to the creation of guidance systems and large-scale munitions. Initially driven by passion, he and his colleagues had a toll taken on them by demands for more efficient weapons. Eventually, he left the military and embarked on an entrepreneurial path, carrying the weight of his military past. While helping his father clean one day, Trujillo found his father’s old work material and tools, and his father uttered Robert Oppenheimer’s famous quote: “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”
“Dimensions of Engineering” unfolds through Trujillo’s mixed-media prints, offering a vivid portrayal of his father’s thoughts, fears and experiences of camaraderie, and the innovation of destruction. The exhibit draws inspiration from dreams, conversations, visions and photos from the critical years of his father’s career.
